This week, let's look at a story from the Jewish tradition.

A story about a clever fox, a wise fish, and the wisdom inside us that always tells us what's right.

Let's dive in...

⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY

There once was a fox who was walking along the edge of a river.

He was the cleverest of all the animals, some said...

As he walked, he noticed the fish in the river below.

They were swimming quickly, as though they were darting from one place to another.

And they seemed restless and uneasy.

The fox saw this and got very curious...

So he stopped and watched them for a while.

Then he called down to the water.

"Tell me," the fox said...

"Why do you swim so frantically? What troubles you?"

One of the fish looked up at him and said...

"We're trying to avoid the nets"

"The traps that are set for us in the water. We swim carefully to stay away from them."

The fox smiled... As he had an idea, like a light bulb moment...

"I understand," the fox said.

"It sounds exhausting, you guys seem always afraid and never truly safe."

"Why don't you come up here?... Onto the land... With me."

"Up here, there are no nets. No traps."

"And you can finally get some rest and be safe."

"Come up onto the land?"... the fish asked.

"Yes," said the fox. "Where it's safe."

The fish looked up at the fox and said...

"You're right, we are afraid, and we spend our days avoiding nets."

"We never stop moving and it does feel exhausting."

The fox's ears lit up as he leaned in closer... sensing that the fish was tempted.

"But tell me something," the fish continued...

"This fear we feel... this struggle... we feel it because we're alive."

"Because the water is where we breathe. Where we live. Where we belong."

"Yes, there are nets here and yes, it's hard."

"But even with all of it... this is our home."

"If we're struggling here, in the very place that keeps us alive..."

"What do you think would happen to us up there, on the land?"

"The struggle here is the struggle of survival..."

"But up there... there would be no struggle at all... Because we wouldn't survive it."

And with that, the fish turned and swam back into the water...

Back into the danger... But also... back to where it belonged.

"The only person who knows what's best for you... is you."

UNDERSTANDING YOUR OWN WISDOM

You see, the fox wasn't entirely wrong...

The fish were struggling...

They were tired, and they were afraid.

And the fox did offer them a way out.

A place with no nets, a place with no traps and a place with no fear.

And it does sound like the perfect solution.

But the wise fish knew that the struggle wasn't the problem.

The struggle was a part of life...

In the same way, sometimes, people will offer us solutions like the fox did.

They'll see us struggling and offer a way out.

And often, they mean well.

But just because something works for others, doesn't mean it's right for us.

Because no one knows "you" like you do.

No one knows what keeps you going.

No one can truly know what's right for you...

And this is where our own wisdom comes in.

That inner knowing... the one that tells you what feels right and what doesn't.

The one we so often ignore because someone else sounds so sure.

And we doubt ourselves... we override our wisdom.

We tell ourselves that others must know better.

So this week, when someone offers you their version of what's best for you...

Listen to what they say. And also consider it.

But then check it against your own inner knowing.

Does this feel right for me?

Or does something about it feel off?

Because advice can come from many places...

But the wisdom to know what's truly right for you... that already lives inside you.

You just have to trust it.

"There is a voice inside of you that whispers all day long, 'I feel this is right for me.'"

— Shel Silverstein

🧘‍♂️ MANTRA FOR THE WEEK

"I remind myself to trust what I feel is right for me. Others may mean well, but I know myself the best. And whenever doubt creeps in, I come back to my own knowing. Because the wisdom to know what's right for me is already inside me."
