This week, let’s look at a story from the Vedic tradition.

A story about a young musician who was ready... but was waiting for someone else to tell him so.

Let’s dive in...

⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY

There once was a young musician who had been studying under his teacher for many years.

He was very talented...

But he never felt that he was ready to perform on his own.

Every time an opportunity came... he would say the same thing.

“Not yet. I’m still learning.”

He kept waiting for the day his teacher would look at him and say... “You’re ready now.”

And sadly enough for him, that day never came.

His teacher would listen to him play, and send him back to practice more.

Never once did his teacher say the words the student was waiting to hear.

And so the student kept practicing...

He kept telling himself that the moment his teacher declared him ready... he would step forward.

Then one day the teacher fell ill...

And a celebration was coming up in the village and someone was needed to play music.

The teacher called his student to his bedside.

“You’ll play at the celebration,” he said.

The student felt his stomach drop.

“But you haven’t told me I’m ready,” he said.

The teacher looked at him calmly and said nothing...

So the student went. And he played.

His hands shook at first. But then the music started flowing...

He played the way he had always played in practice... freely and without holding back.

When it was over, the village sat in silence... before breaking into a loud applause.

The student went back to his teacher that evening, still shaking a little from the experience.

“Why did you never tell me I was ready?” he asked.

The teacher looked at him, smiled softly and said...

“Because I was waiting for you to know it yourself.”

✨ UNDERSTANDING SELF VALIDATION

Most of us have done some version of what the student did, haven’t we?

We hold back from something we want to do... waiting for someone to tell us that we are ready.

We wait for the approval... The nod.

For the green light from someone whose opinion we trust more than our own.

And it does feel responsible. It feels humble.

Like we’re being careful rather than reckless.

But here’s what’s actually happening when we do that...

We’re giving someone else the authority over something that was always ours.

Our readiness. Our confidence...

Our permission to move forward.

And the problem with waiting for external validation is that it rarely arrives in the form we’re hoping for.

People are busy with their own life...

And they rarely see what you’re capable of... at least not truly in the way you do.

And sometimes... like the teacher in the story...

They might just be waiting for you to figure it out for yourself.

The truth is that nobody can tell you when you’re ready.

Because readiness is a decision you make... and not a destination you arrive at.

In the story, the student was ready long before the celebration.

He just didn’t know it yet.

And no amount of his teacher’s words would have given him what that one performance did.

The experience of actually doing it... That’s what builds real confidence.

So if you’ve been waiting for someone to tell you that you’re ready...

Consider this your sign.

You most likely... already are.
