This week, let's look at a story from the Taoist tradition.
A story about two trees, planted on the same day, and what really determines who stands strong when life tests them.
Let's dive in...
⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY
There once were two saplings planted on the same day, side by side, in the same patch of soil.
By the end of the first year, one had already grown tall...
Its branches reached out wide. And the people passing by would stop and admire it.
The other tree barely seemed to have grown.
Still small... Still close to the ground.
The gardener tending both watered them the same.
Showed both trees the same kind of love and care.
Years passed this way...
The taller tree kept growing fast... tall and wide.
It became the tree children in the neighborhood climbed.
The one people admired...
One afternoon, a traveler passing through asked the gardener about it.
"That one," he said, pointing to the smaller tree, "it doesn't seem to be doing much."
The gardener said... "It's doing exactly what it needs to."
The traveler didn't understand. But he didn't ask further.
Years passed... One day, the same traveler passed through again...
And that same night, a heavy storm came through the region.
Strong winds. Heavy rains... A storm that tested everything standing in its path.
By morning, the tall tree had fallen.
Its roots, the gardener later showed the traveler, had spread wide but never gone very deep.
The smaller tree was still standing.
Its roots, when the gardener dug just slightly to show the traveler, had gone deep into the earth.
And all those years it looked like it wasn't doing much... it had been building something the eye couldn't see.
And the gardener said, "It was always growing."
"It was just growing in a way that doesn't show... until it is tested."
"Just because your path looks different doesn't mean you're behind. It means it's yours."
✨ UNDERSTANDING YOUR TIMELINE
Haven't we all looked at someone else's life and felt that quiet ache of being behind?
Someone got that job. Someone built that business.
And we're still here... still growing slowly.
Still not sure where we're headed.
So we start measuring ourselves against their pace. Their milestones... Their timeline.
And it feels like its proof that we're doing something wrong.
But here's what we don't see when we're comparing ourselves to someone else...
We never see their roots... do we?
What shows is the job they landed, not the years they spent figuring out what they actually wanted.
We see the relationship that looks easy, not the work that went into it quietly, behind closed doors.
We see the business that took off, not the versions of it that failed at first.
What grows fast and visible need not always be the strongest.
And what grows slowly, quietly, without anything to show for it yet... isn't being behind.
It might just be building something deeper... something stronger.
Something that won't be tested by the storms that come its way.
This week, if you've been comparing your growth to someone else's...
Ask yourself what you can't see in their story.
And trust that what's happening in yours is making you more resilient, even when it doesn't look like much yet.
Because some of the most important growth... happens exactly where nobody is watching.
"The roots of a tree don't fight each other for the light. They focus on growing deeper."
🧘♂️ MANTRA FOR THE WEEK
"I trust my own timeline. I'm not behind... I'm building something at the pace it actually needs to grow. My roots are going deeper, stronger, even when I can't see it yet. And when life tests me, I know exactly how to handle it."
