This week, let's look at a story from the Bible.

A story about wisdom, and what happens when you stop listening to what people say... and start understanding what they mean.

Let's dive in...

⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY

There once was a king known throughout the land for his wisdom.

People came to him from distant villages with disputes that no one else could settle.

And somehow... he always found a way through.

One morning, two women came to his court. Both were distressed.

And both were speaking at the same time...

So the king raised his hand... and the room went quiet.

"One at a time," he said gently.

The first woman spoke. They both had been living in the same house, she said.

And that both had given birth recently, just days apart.

But during one night, the other woman's baby had passed away in her sleep.

With her voice breaking, she said... "And when I woke in the morning, my baby was gone. She had taken him. The living child is mine."

The second woman shook her head immediately.

"That's not true. The living child is mine. Hers is the one that died."

The court suddenly went silent...

Since there were no witnesses, there was no way to know who was telling the truth.

The two women stood before the king, each certain and each desperate.

The king sat quietly for a moment.

He looked at both women. He saw the fear in their eyes.

He saw what each of them was actually feeling in that moment.

Then he called for a sword...

And the entire room shifted uncomfortably.

"Cut the child in two," he said calmly. "Each woman will receive half."

One woman's face hardened. "Yes," she said quietly. "Let it be done. Then neither of us will have him."

The other woman cried out immediately.

"No... please. Give her the child. Let him live."

The wise king raised his hand once again.

"Give the child to the woman who asked for his life," he said. "She is his mother."

The court erupted. How had he known?

He hadn't used evidence. He hadn't interrogated anyone.

But he had the wisdom to know that a mother would rather lose her child than see him harmed.

And when you understand people that deeply... the truth has a way of finding its own way out.

"Listen with the intent to understand, not the intent to reply."

— Stephen Covey

UNDERSTANDING WHAT LIES BENEATH

Isn't it interesting how we almost always listen to what people say... and rarely to what they mean?

And naturally we take it at face value.

Someone tells us they're fine... we believe them.

Someone tells us they're certain... we trust them.

Someone tells us what they want... we accept it.

But wisdom listens differently...

To what's underneath the words. To the hesitation before an answer.

It listens to the things someone won't say.

It listens to the choice someone makes when the pressure is on.

Because that's where the real truth lives.

The king in the story didn't have evidence...

He didn't have witnesses.

He had two women saying opposite things with equal conviction.

So he stopped trying to find the answer in what they were saying... and started looking at what they were feeling.

He understood something that most of us miss in our everyday interactions...

He understood that what someone is willing to do reveals far more about them than anything they could ever say.

And we too can bring this same quality of attention into our own lives.

Not to outsmart anyone... but to truly see and understand the people around us.

Because when we understand people deeply enough... we stop being confused by what they say.

And we start understanding what they really mean.

And that clarity... is one of the most powerful forms of wisdom there is.

"When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new."

— Dalai Lama

🧘‍♂️ MANTRA FOR THE WEEK

"Today, I choose to listen more deeply. Not just to what people say... but to what they mean. I slow down before I react. I look beneath the surface before I conclude. Because I know that the more clearly I see people... the more wisely I can show up for them and for myself."
