This week, let's dive into a story that symbolizes life's endless chase.
A story about two birds that looked exactly alike... but lived completely different lives.
Let's get into it. 👇
⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY
Long ago, in the heart of a quiet forest, there stood an old mango tree. Its branches spread wide, heavy with fruit, offering shade and shelter to everything beneath it.
In the tree lived two birds. They looked exactly alike... but they couldn't have been more different.
The first bird was restless. It hopped constantly from branch to branch, pecking at the mangoes that hung all over the tree.
Some were ripe and sweet... and the bird would chirp happily, savoring every bite. But others were sour and unripe. And with each sour taste, the bird would shake its head, squawk loudly, and complain about how unfair life was.
Yet it couldn't stop itself.
It kept chasing the next fruit, hoping that this one would finally be the sweet one it craved. The one that would finally be enough.
The second bird was different.
It sat high on a branch, calm and perfectly still. It didn't eat the fruit. It didn't react when the first bird found something sweet. It didn't flinch when the first bird tasted something sour. It just... watched. Existing in a state of total peace.
One day, a young monk wandered into the forest.
He was tired. Burdened by the struggles of his path. Disappointed by his failures. And somehow, even his small victories left him feeling empty.
He sat under the mango tree to rest... and noticed the two birds.
The busy, restless one caught his attention first. Its constant movement reminded him of his own life… always chasing something, sometimes happy, sometimes upset, but never truly at peace. But the second bird intrigued him more.
How could it just sit there, so calm and unbothered, while the first bird wore itself out?
The monk decided to sit with this question. And as he watched in silence, a realization dawned on him.
The two birds weren't separate at all.
The restless bird was him. His mind. His ego. The part of him that was always reacting to the world around him… celebrating the wins, mourning the losses, endlessly chasing the next thing that might finally bring him peace.
The calm bird was also him. His highest self. The part that had always been there, quietly watching, untouched by the chaos.
He whispered to himself, "I've been so focused on what I didn't have... that I forgot about the part of me that had everything I ever needed and more."
From that day on, his life changed.
He no longer reacted to every success or failure. The fruits of life still came and went... some sweet, some sour, but they no longer controlled him. Because he'd finally remembered something.
Beneath all the chasing, beneath all the wanting, there was a part of him that already held everything he'd been searching for. A part that didn't need the sweet fruit to feel joy. A part that didn't break when life turned sour.
It had been there the whole time. Watching. Waiting. Already whole… He just forgot to listen.
"When you realize nothing is lacking, the whole world belongs to you."
✨ THE BREAKDOWN
The first bird kept chasing the next fruit because it believed this one would finally be the one. The one that would satisfy it. The one that would last.
And sometimes we do the same thing.
Thinking the next milestone will finally bring you that happiness... that peace you've been looking for.
But here's what happens... we get there, and for a moment it feels good. And then the feeling fades. And we're already looking for the next thing.
The monk recognized himself in that first bird. Always chasing. Never satisfied.
And in that moment, he realized what he'd been looking for was never out there. It was already inside him. Waiting. Watching. Whole.
"The kingdom of heaven is within you."
⚡️ FROM INSIGHT TO ACTION
This week, pay attention to the chase.
Notice when you think: Once I get this, I'll finally feel...
Ask yourself: What am I actually chasing? And will getting it really be enough?
You don't need to stop wanting things. You just need to notice if the pattern serves you or if it's just an endless loop. The constant reaching. The belief that happiness lives somewhere outside of you.
Remember, what you're looking for isn't out there. It's not in the next win or the next milestone.
It's already here... within you.
And when challenges come, you don't need to pretend they're not there. You handle what needs handling. Make decisions. Take action.
But you can do all of that from a place of calm. You can respond without being consumed. You can solve the problem without letting it shake your peace.
That's the difference between the two birds. One reacts. The other observes and responds, from a place of calm.
This week, notice the chase. Question it. And when challenges come… observe and respond from a place of calm.
🧘♂️ MANTRA FOR THE WEEK
“I am already whole. I observe and respond from a place of calm.”
