This week, let's look at a story from Chinese folklore.

A timeless story about invisible progress, months of doubt, and the one belief that carries you through.

Let's dive in...

⏳ THE TIMELESS STORY

There once was a man who lived at the foot of a great mountain.

One evening he overheard two strangers talking at the market.

One of them said there was jade in that mountain. Rich and untouched.

He was sure of it…

The man couldn't stop thinking about what he'd heard.

So he bought some tools from the market and went up the mountain.

He walked until he found a spot that felt right... a place where the rock had a certain color to it. Different from the rest.

He didn't know much about jade. But something told him to start here.

So he did.

The first week he found nothing.

The second week... nothing.

People in the village started to notice.

His neighbors would see him heading up the mountain every morning with his tools and come back every evening empty handed.

Some thought he was brave. Most thought he was foolish.

His wife never said a word. But he could see it in her eyes.

But he kept going.

Weeks turned into months. And still... nothing.

Some mornings he'd stand there at the entrance of the dig and feel like a fool.

Maybe there's nothing here, he thought. Maybe those strangers were just talking.

But he'd pick up his tools anyway... and go back in.

Until one morning he stood at the mouth of the dig... and felt the weight of every single day hit him all at once.

He just stood there. Staring into the tunnel he'd spent months carving out of that mountain.

What am I doing, he thought. What have I been doing.

He looked at his hands. Worn and rough from months of work.

All that time. All those mornings.

For nothing.

He picked up his tools slowly... and walked back down the mountain.

That evening he cleaned them. Laid them out one by one.

And the next morning he sold them to a man passing through the village.

The man who bought them had heard the same story at the market... jade in that mountain. Rich and untouched.

He went up, found the tunnel, and started right where the first man had stopped.

The very next day, his pickaxe hit something solid... and different.

Jade. Deep and rich... exactly what the first man had spent months searching for.

The news reached the village by evening.

The first man heard it at the market...

People around him were buzzing... jade had been found in the mountain. Someone had struck it in just one day.

He went quiet.

He thought about that last morning on the mountain. His tools in his hands. The tunnel right in front of him.

One more day, he thought. I was one day away from finding it.

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

— Thomas Edison

UNDERSTANDING BELIEF

I know that ending hurts...

Because somewhere inside, we recognize that person. We've all been there at some point.

Standing at the edge of something we've poured ourselves into...

Worn down. Nothing to show for it.

And that voice in our head asking... What am I doing? What have I been doing?

Maybe you're there right now...

With a business that's not taking off. A skill you've been building that hasn't paid off yet. A relationship you're trying to rebuild. A creative project that feels like it's going nowhere.

And you're tired... You've been working at this for months.

Maybe years. And you still can't see results.

So here's the honest question: How do you know when to keep going... and when to walk away?

Because sometimes persistence is wisdom. And sometimes it's just stubbornness keeping you stuck.

The difference isn't about how close you are to success. You can't know that. No one can!

The difference is unwavering belief.

Deep belief... The kind you feel in your bones even when everything looks like failure.

The first person quit because he couldn't see proof. His hands were worn. His tunnel was empty. And without visible progress, doubt became louder than belief.

But he was digging toward something real... His instinct was right.

He just stopped believing before the work was done.

And that's the question you need to ask yourself.

Not "Am I close to success?"

But "Do I still believe in what I'm working toward?"

Not just on good days…

Even when it's hard. Even when you can't see anything yet.

If the answer is yes... if you still feel that pull, that quiet knowing that this matters... then keep going.

Because your belief that 'it will work' is the only thing that carries you through invisible progress.

And when you find something worth working toward, don't stop just because you can't see results yet.

Don't stop just because it's hard...

Stop when you stop believing. But not before.

"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."

— Christian D. Larson

🧘‍♂️ MANTRA FOR THE WEEK

“Even when I want to quit... I don't stop when it's hard. I give it one more try. My belief carries me through what I can't see yet. And my belief is enough to carry me through.”
